Congratulations to all of the above. The judges had a very difficult task choosing the winners out of the thousands of very high standard entries received.
All winners and schools will be contacted in due course. There will be a formal prize-giving ceremony - as yet to be arranged. Photographs of the winning entries will be posted on the website when available.
The main object was to increase understanding among young people of the role of our constitutional monarchy and of our Queen in this, Her Majesty’s 80th birthday year and the 54th year of her reign.
The competition involved either writing a poem about anything to do with Her Majesty the Queen's 80th birthday or making a birthday card! Entries could relate to a young person’s own experience of the Queen and what she does or about the Queen and our Monarchy in general.
The criteria by which entries were judged were age, originality, the amount of effort put in or a particularly personal recollection. We would stress therefore that anybody who submitted any sort of entry stood a good chance of being selected for a prize.
One very special feature of the competition is that as many winning entries as possible were displayed at a major exhibition which was held on The Queen’s official birthday on 17th June. HRH Prince William of Wales was there and expressed great interest in the exhibition - asking many questions. Further details and photographs will be posted on the website when available. The winning entries and any which are of special merit in any way will later be sent to Buckingham Palace for The Queen to see!
The Association offered a range of prizes. First prize is a state-of-the-art computer for the winner’s school and for the winner. Additional prizes will include software packages for the runners up; Royal Mint limited edition commemorative £5 coins and certificates of merit for the entries which the judging panel deem to be highly commendable and copies of the book Blood Royal - from the time of Alexander the Great to Queen Elizabeth II for those schools which received high commendation. All schools which have taken part in the competition will receive a large poster of the Queen.
